Kurtis Parsons “Conga Kurty” began his career in percussion as early as the 6th grade when his teacher told him he wouldn’t be good at it.  Two weeks later he took the teacher by storm, he was very impressed and put him on the percussion team.  By 7th grade he moved up to 1st chair and eventually became the lead drummer in the jazz band.

He started his Conga career working with Jah Roots Reggae band, then, in 2015  he met the HIRIE Band while volunteering at The Roots Cali festival in California and wound up working with them that day!

 

Zakiya Hooker made her debut performance in 1991 with her dad, John Lee Hooker, at the Kaiser Center Theatre in Oakland, CA. Since that time Zakiya has gone on to perform on shows with the likes of Etta James, Charles Brown, John Hammond, Taj Mahal, Charlie Musselwhite and many more.

Zakiya’s music is broad in the genres it covers. A strong and versatile vocalist, Zakiya has carved out a market for herself.
